This is how I feel about socialists and other college eggheads. Western society has developed an awesome way of life, with freedom and affluence. Then come the eggheads and they want to radically change how things are done, on a worldwide scale. Maybe if you would like to try it, try it on a small scale, like maybe the Soviet Union, China, Mongolia, North Korea, half of Africa's countries.....still not working? Maybe the box is a better idea. No reason to reinvent the wheel.
Back when I was 21 or 22, my older brother just got divorced. His ex was a good looking girl, but hypergamous like most women are. She worked at a pizza parlor, and he did odd jobs here and there. They lived in a trailer house, and did fun stuff on the weekends. They were trying to do it differently. But I guess she didn't think a guy making a living driving tractor and mending fences (albeit he was only about 23) was worth keeping around, so she monkey-branched to some other guy.
At the time, I never set foot in church, but I saw this that he went through. They were trying to be non-traditional, having both work, and just goofing off without kids. They were reinventing the wheel in family relations, going against basic biology, and doing it the new way. Well, that way didn't work. Meanwhile, one of my (Mormon) friends from high school was buckling down and working hard to get a Veternarian's education. He married a hot little woman, and they were doing it the more traditional way. From what I saw, I wanted more of what my friend had, not what my brother had.
Later that year, I was determined to get that. So, I gave up drinking, gave up smoking, gave up running around with my loser friends, and applied myself in school. No longer was I destined to be a loser, with a loser for a wife (or ex wife) and little losers for kids. I went to church, redoubled my efforts in college, and 5 years later, married a wonderful woman. Now we have six kids, and a good, traditional home.
However, there is a caveat to this. Circumstances change. If you see people around you being ruined by doing the same thing that has always been done, maybe it is time to try something different. I focused on getting a traditional woman, with whom this would work. If you cannot find her, maybe it would be better to do something different.
Point is, there are many examples where people got it right. Perhaps doing it how Frank Sinatra did it isn't so bad after all.
