WB Archives 20171128 - Lifting Face

One of the most important and most over looked things in the gym is the mind-muscle connection. If you go into the gym with your notebook or an app that lists your workout and you do your lifts and cross them off you just aren’t getting it all the way done. You have to think through ever inch of the range of motion. You need to summon all of your intensity. You should have CT Fletcher’s voice in your head yelling “It’s Still Your Mother Fuckin’ Set.”

People put down gym grunting too quickly. I am not saying that you should be the guy who makes huge, loud grunts for attention. However, you should be putting 100% into it which will result in noises coming out of you. More than this, However, you should be making that lifting face.

This is the face of a man who is focusing on the ROM and nothing else

When you connect your mind to your muscle and you squeeze through your ROM and push yourself to the point of making a lifting face and some grunt escaping that is when you get maximum results. Face it, we all have our bad day at the gym here and there, but as a general rule you should have your self totally focused on the lift to the point where the world disappears and it is just you and the iron.

Yours Truly and His Lifting Mug

It is so important to focus on every aspect of your lift and not just to put your mind away during your workout session that I am contemplating giving up my headphones. Has anyone experimented with a music free lifting session where the only noise is the gym background noise and the sound of the iron? If so, comment below and let me know your results.
