The Self Improvement Lie

Self help books, blogs, videos etc are everywhere.  People are always trying to find the next thing that will give them the nudge they need to feel better.  People flock to this stuff because its very easy to try to outsource how you're supposed to feel to someone else.   Follow these 10 steps, take this advice, do this and you'll succeed etc.  Everything from fitness, to finances, to overall mood are things people are trying to absorb more "how tos" in order to get their shit together.

While I know there is a wealth of information out there that can help and inform, I think the "self improvement" culture of today is actually detrimental to any type of real improvement.   How many people actually do the things in real life they claim they do online? (heh) How many "alpha males" do you see in the real world vs what you see online?  It doesnt add up.

I think what we have are people addicted to gathering information.  People that read every article, watch every video on Youtube, who comment on and talk about a subject/lifestyle/action but seldom actually partake in doing it.

Everyone on bodybuilding.com deadlifts 700lbs

Everyone on ROK slayed pussy every night of the week

Everyone on r/personalfinance is raking in tons of money

Truth is, if you have all the time to boast about this stuff online, when is it actually getting done?
