A Dark Road ~ by Ransom

Murdoc33 1/3:

Today we are reminded how much rougher things will get.  This is but the first official step down a very dark road.

Ransom:

A dark road strewn with potholes.

It is some comfort to know that the die has been already cast.

Murdoc33 1/3:

I had to let "some comfort" stew, and I'm not completely happy with how the taste turned out.

But it's merely because I'm not adequately prepared to give my children guidance on how to deal with the new system versus the old system.

The little comfort I can find here is .. primal?

This recent interchange deserves a longer response than a comment can do justice.

Barring some unusual circumstances (Q is real, politicians secretly love America, and everyone gets a pony) things are going to get dark for a long time.  How dark?  How long?  I do not know.

Whatever it is it will be a struggle.

If as it appears the top level political system is indeed a closed loop over which the commoners can exert no meaningful influence, well, that is a bad thing.  There is no other way to frame it.  It is out of control.

Where is the comfort in that?

The outcome of a system is determined primarily by the rules under which it operates -- the real rules, not the official ones -- and it sure looks like the autopilot is welded on with no override.

Where's the comfort in that?

The powers that be have declared all but open warfare on the institutions that allow happy society to exist.  They are so big and we are so small, there is nothing we can do to set it back aright.

Where is the comfort in that?

Each of us has limited time and limited resources.  A man can do only so much.  Things spent in one area cannot be spent in another.

To this point we have been trying to bail a leaking ship.  Well, the captain has steered us right onto the shoals.

While things appeared salvageable we have done our utmost to salvage it.  To all appearances that window of opportunity has closed.

The comfort is this; the matter has been taken out of our hands.  The logic of this closed system will grind to its own conclusion.  We have done our duty.  We can now turn our full attention to more intimate matters.

It is okay to be sad.  You have the right to be sad.  It is okay to be angry.  You have the right to be angry.  You have been robbed.  Your children have been robbed.

Put your anger and your grief to worthy ends.

Work without ceasing, and as you work, pray.  Pray to God for your children, and for your neighbors, and for your enemies.  These three remain; faith, hope, and love.

The most common event in history is the unlooked-for.  The mighty became so by means of cunning.  Their strength is their weakness, because complexity and deceit are especially vulnerable to the unforeseen.
