14. How does it feel to interrupt me when I’m in the middle of making a point during a meeting?
Ransom - You were making a point?
Look, male and female communication patterns are different because they are optimized for different environments. Women are optimised for relationship maintenance, community health, and the persuasion of children. Men are optimised for addressing risk, coordinating teams, and getting things done.
The business environment is best suited for male communication patterns. This is not arbitrary. The need to get things done dictates this. If women want to succeed in the workplace they need to learn how to navigate male communication patterns.
If you inflict interminable stories on us when we have work to do, it's not our problem; it's your problem. If you perpetually solicit affirmation instead of simply coming out and saying what needs to be said, that's not our problem; it's your problem. If you expect all of us to joyfully abandon our functional workplace culture just because you're a woman...well, you are after all a woman.
Learn to navigate the existing culture and there will be no drama.
Oh wait.
For the record I've never had this problem with women at work. A few men do it, usually in a health & safety capacity.
