A Breath of Fresh Air ~ by Ransom

The year 2020 saw far more than its share of disasters both natural and self-inflicted, but good has come out of it as well.

Today I would like to direct your attention to the dramatic increase in homeschooling and other unconventional venues of education in response to the governments' abysmal handling of schooling since the pandemic began.

According to an article from the US Census Bureau published March 22 of this year rates of homeschooling in the US increased from a pre-pandemic level of 3.3% to a Fall 2020 rate of 11.1% of households pursuing home education methods.  This does not count remote instruction by conventional government school teachers.  It is not clear if the 3.3% represents households or students but this difference is probably small.

It is likely that this number will drop as government schools re-open but it will not go all the way back down.  Too many parents were displeased to discover what their children were learning when it was brought into the home.

There are a lot of problems in the world and no single solution exists for all them.  Taking responsibility for raising our young will go a long way to start.  The explosive growth is a positive trend that will stick around for the long term.
