61. Value a handful of truly close friends over a hundred acquaintances.
I envy the men who have to make this choice though perhaps they have occasion to envy me.
Close friends don't just happen. They are formed by meaningful events over a span of years. Acquaintances are easy and cheap.
Close friends have an interest in you and will often hold you to account. Acquaintances can easily move on.
Getting the close friends, that's the trick. If there is a formula I don't know it. Refusing to live a life of isolation sounds like a good first step.
