Meme Monday - Divorce Rates

I saw this chart and thought it was interesting. This is the divorce rates per year for the Finnish.

For example, you take 1000 random Finnish couples, in any given year 14 couples are likely to divorce that year. The gay crowd looks like they are slightly more likely to divorce, with lesbian couples almost twice as likely to divorce as a straight couple.

This chart is interesting too. Right now, divorce rates are decreasing, but so are marriage rates. Since 1980, the divorce rate is about half of the marriage rate, which means about 50% of marriages will end in divorce as it stands. With the decreasing marriage rates, it appears that individuals are preferring to stay single. In my genealogical research (mostly 1800's and earlier), I see divorces occasionally, but they were uncommon.
